Tai Chi - The Next Martial Art to take to the big screen
Content
It seems after the popularity of Wing Chun films, the next thing to feature in a new wave of martial arts films is Tai Chi. Though some might wonder how such a slow and "soft" art form can make a great action film, if you looked further into Tai Chi, you may find moves that are pretty devastating attack techniques. An excellent martial art for improving all round health and speeding up reflexes, with soft movements perfect for the less energetic learner. Great as I'm getting old.
There is a wave of Tai Chi related films in the pipeline. Firstly, there are Stephen Chow's Tai Chi, which is hopeful of beginning production early next year, Tiger Chen's Taichi Tiger, produced by Keanu Reeves, Wu Jing's Way of Tai Chi, which is set in Japan and the script of which has probably been completed for months but is being delayed in favour of a military film, and Yang Zi's Master of Tai Chi, that was announced recently, as well as Wang Bao Qiang's New Master of Tai Chi TV series, that is being choreographed by Tan Qiao.Via Wu-Jing
For the impatient and newly christened Jet Li fan, seek out a copy of his 1993 film Tai Chi Master which provides entertaining martial arts action, directed by Yuen Woo-Ping and also starring Michelle Yeoh. Reviewed here.
