As a photography company, this was a great project for Canon to gain brand awareness.

Armed with their Canon digital SLR's, more than thirty photographers pounced on unsuspecting football fans at the various Euro 2004 matches and at the "Fan Park", and offered to take their photos, or course, in front of a Canon branded backdrop.

Postcards were then given to the fans with details on how to access their photo online which included a high-resolution image that they could download and print off, all with the Canon logo imprinted.

A send to friend feature allowed fans to send a link of their photo to their envious friends and family, and not surprisingly, this proved highly popular!

Over 50,000 images were uploaded over the course of Euro 2004 and the website had over 100,000 visitors and over 1 million hits over the few months it was live.

We created comprehensive administration screens to view images, photographer lists and games and daily statistics and totals.

To minimise any errors for photographers, we developed an upload tool for photos which used the photo file names and included image batch processing (server-side) to produce thumbnails and preview images from the uploaded, full resolution files.

The success of the site led to a repeat performance for the Champion's League final in 2005, which gave us an opportunity to visit Istanbul! Well, my colleague, not me.
